Barcelonas transfer strategy this summer: Sign quality and cheap players – MARCA.com

Barcelona are going through a tough time in financial terms, but they will be called to strengthen their squad with quality signings to compete for all trophies next season.

Joan Laporta has promised fans an exciting new project, one which he expects to be led by Lionel Messi, whose contract ends this summer.

To convince the Argentine forward to stay at the Blaugrana, the club have to make some smart moves in the upcoming window without spending big.

Despite their financial situation, Barcelona are working on five signings which will arrive to strengthen the team for next season.

Sergio Aguero

The Argentine could be one of the first signings to be announced by Barcelona, as his deal with Manchester City ends in June.

Despite his injury issues and his age, he would offer the club quality in attack, where their only natural striker is Martin Braithwaite.

Eric Garcia

The Manchester City centre-back is also expected to join the Blaugrana on a free transfer. His move has not been made official as the club were waiting for the Sky Blues to play the Champions League final.

Georginio Wijnaldum

The Dutch midfielder has bid farewell to Liverpool and his agent held meetings with Barcelona last week. Many believed that his move could be linked to Ronald Koeman’s future, but this does not seem to be the case.

Memphis Depay

The Lyon striker could also join Barcelona on a free transfer, as the Blaugrana are interested in signing Depay regardless of their decision on Koeman’s future.

Barcelona can sign the Real Betis right-back by paying nine million euros and they are expected to do so this summer. The Catalan club have co-owned Emerson with Betis since January 2019.

Another centre-back

Barcelona are working on the signing of another centre-back following the team’s struggles in defence this season. The only way to bring in an elite defender such as Matthijs de Ligt would be through a swap deal, something that seems unfeasible for the time being.
